The Tornado Connection is the Intermediate High School's online newspaper for parents. The articles are written by 7th and 8th grade students in Ms. Minch's "Tornado Connection" enrichment class.

NexTier Bank recently made a donation $25,000 to The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, Inc. via Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
Carol Achezinski, NexTier Bank’s Senior Vice President, Treasury Management, visited the Butler Area School District central office to deliver the check.

Ms. Meskel's 6th grade ELA students recently won the Third-Circuit essay contest!
The essay topic was about the importance of voting. Fifth and sixth grade students were eligible to apply.
To write the essay, the class was divided into small groups and assigned subtopics to research. Each group created a writing based on their research and then combined their writing into a shared document where students worked together to edit the essay to meet the 500 word requirement.
Senior Owen Maharg and junior Kylee Bernhard organized and planned a great event for current Intermediate High School students. The event -- which was called High School Head Start -- was an opportunity for IHS students and families to learn more about the Senior High School.
Senior High School students attended the event to represent their clubs, activities and organizations. The Rock Orchestra and Drum Line also gave great performances.
Aaron Swory, a 6th grade student at the Intermediate High School, recently won first place in the region for the 6-8 grade division in the Chemistry Illustrated poetry competition.
Aaron will move on to the national contest! In addition, he will receive $50 as a prize.

Butler Area School District students recently competed in Academic Games Leagues of America National Tournament in Orlando, Florida!
Andrew Benjamin, Easton Floris and Blake Giocondo qualified for the national tournament and traveled to Orlando to compete. Andrew is in 7th grade at the Intermediate High School, Easton is in 6th grade at the Intermediate High School and Blake is in 5th grade at Northwest Elementary School.
